Outward Action vs. Inward Renewal
by Jarrett Stephens on September 10, 2007
There is no doubt that spending time alone with God is the most important aspect of a believer's life. We can not be victorious over temptation, honest in our relationships or live in the power of God's Spirit apart from spending time with him. Christians truly want to spend time with God, but three things stand in the way: laziness, selfishness and busyness.

  Bad Leadership Lessons
by Gabe Gilliam on August 27, 2007
The book of Judges picks up the story of the Israelites flawed occupation of the Promised Land in the 350 years following the death of Joshua. The death of Joshua left a moral and spiritual leadership vacuum among the Israelites, and the people began to rebel. You see, sometimes negative experiences shape and inform us more than positive ones. Hopefully, the story of Barak's cowardly leadership from Judges 4 should stand as a lasting impression for your future decisions.

  Choose Your Own Adventure
by Janet Hamilton on August 2, 2007
I remember as a child reading the series of books Choose Your Own Adventure. I didn't get to choose the characters or the circumstances, but I could play a role in the outcome. As I have been thinking about the issue of forgiveness, for many of us, it is a lot like those books. We didn't get to choose the family we were born in; we didn't choose our parents to divorce; we didn't choose a promise to be broken; but we can choose what to do with the outcome.

  Christ and Culture
by Gabe Gilliiam on July 17, 2007
When Constantine, the Roman Emperor, became a Christian, there was a tension between faith and secular happenings. The flight of monks and nuns away from the city highlighted the idea of opposing and fleeing culture. During the Enlightenment, culture and the Church clashed over the new rational/scientific movement. In all of these situations, and many others like them, the same question arose: Where is the balance between Christ and culture?

  God in Movies
by Morgan Ballard on July 3, 2007
Morgan Freeman giveth and Morgan Freeman taketh away. Wait...no that's not right, let me try again. No Jim Caviezel, no peace. Know Jim Caviezel, know peace. OK, so something is wrong. The problem is that for a lot of people out there Mr. Freeman is the only version of God that they have encountered and Jim Caviezel is the only Jesus that they have ever seen. For many people the only interaction that they have with Christianity comes through the movies. What about you?

  The Purpose of Prayer
by Gabe Gilliam on June 26,2007
Christmas at the Gilliam house had finally arrived, and I was preparing myself for either triumph or defeat. The era of rollerblades was at hand, and I was desperately in need of a pair. I had been obsessively asking for a pair of rollerblades since late August, and now it was D-day. I am happy to say that my parents did graciously give me a nice pair of roller blades that glorious day. But a recurring question I have heard of late is "why does it work this way with God too?"

  Money and Faith
by Bo Patterson on June 18, 2007
Recently, Money magazine published an article entitled "What Would You Do For Money?" The author wanted to know how ethical and moral the typical American was in relation to our culture. Would you flirt with your boss to get a promotion? Would you correct a bank error that deposited $2,000 in your account? The results were astonishing! Americans seem to be pretty good about money and ethics. But what about money and faith?

  Modesty in Today's Culture
by Janet Hamilton on June 13, 2007
What do you think of when you hear the word "modesty?" If you are like me, you immediately think of June Cleaver in Leave it to Beaver, or the Colonial period and Gone with the Wind. Unfortunately, we live in a "look at me" culture that glorifies Laguna Beach and Desperate Housewives. The problem with this is that we forget one major thing: Men are visual and how we dress affects how they think. That is why, as Christian women, modesty is not only important but essential.

  God Delusion Book Review
by Gabe Gilliam on May 29, 2007
I need you to be honest with me. Have you ever once, maybe just once, maybe just for one nano-second, have you ever wondered if it was all a sham. Religion that is. Have you ever wondered if all of Christianity was a sham? Richard Dawkins has asked this question in his book, The God Delusion, and resoundingly sets out to prove that God never was, isn't and never will be. How is a Christian to respond?

  Why I Pay $1.89 for Starbuck's Coffee
by Jarrett Stephens on May 22, 2007
When Starbucks came on the scene and began taking over the world, it did not take me long to discover why everyone seemed to make a habit out of going back again. The experience they offered along with my grande breakfast blend was amazing! I could be greeted by name, have coffee made exactly the way I want it, log onto the computer to check e-mail, and then read the morning paper. But, is Starbucks worth it?

  On-line Dating
by Janet Hamilton on May 16, 2007
Over the past 10 years the stigma of online dating has gradually changed from the weird and socially awkward to the cultural norm. This is thanks to movies like You've Got Mail, websites like Facebook and MySpace, and just the overall technology movement our culture has experienced.
